Memorial Day Challenge

I hate George Bush. War is hell. Freedom isn't free. Deserts are hot. Where were the WMDs? This war was started over oil. It's the Republicans fault. All Democrats are lying bastards. Rumsfeld is a fucking liar. There aren't enough troops. Bring them home. Never forget. Support the Troops. Stop loss. Active Duty. Retired Generals. 9-11. Terror. Nuclear weapons.

Sound bites. Most people make up their minds over politics hearing these little snippets, these headlines. They rarely bother reading the whole article, let alone turning the pages.

We are at war, like it or not. And seeing W's approval rating plummet like a god damn mudslide is a good indication that most of us really don't like it. Mostly though, we have simply lost faith in our system. We don't trust our elected officials. I feel so jaded and filled with contempt with every newspaper article and news report. I want to throw my television out the window when that jerk makes some sort of statement/speech.

So, I challenge you dear reader. I challenge you to watch, read, listen, write. Learn about this war, about why we're there. Whatever side you end up on, know WHY you're there. Learn some names and some places.

But mostly though, VOTE.

VOTE.

Please, just show up. If you haven't voted, you have absolutely not a God damn thing to say about anything.

Put the yellow ribbons down if you're too busy to vote. Put your stickers and flags away if you don't venture into a voting booth. You don't support the troops if you stand idly by while tyrants are taking over our government. You Who Cannot Be Bothered have blood on your hands. You, who are sooo busy with yourself, are the reason for Taps being played, for folded flags being handed to weeping wives and mothers. I blame you Oh Lazy American and your do-nothingness for my $50 fillups and for seeing too many friends sent oversees.

I'll forgive you if you do one thing...

Enlist.

Your laziness is responsible for thousands being sent away. Make up for your one vote by sending yourself in someone's stead.

Don't worry, we'll put a flag on your headstone every Memorial Day. You'll die a hero. And isn't that enough?
