A Wee iPhone Sock

My first knitting pattern!!!  Well, its barely a pattern.  More like a crafty idea compiled from many other more original and talented knitters' patterns. Here goes....

Yarn pictured is Blue Moon Fiber Arts in a colorway that came with a sock monkey kit.

Materials:  bit of left over sock yarn (fingering weight)

Needles:  Sets of 4 dpns in sizes 0 and 1

Notions:  Darning needle

1.      Using the smaller needles, cast on 36 stitches using the long tail cast on.

2.      Divide evenly over 3 needles

3.      Join being careful not to twist (you knew I would say that!)

4.      Work ribbing for ½ inch (pick your poison... I did K2 P2 myself)

5.      Now work in st st for another 5 inches (just knit around and around)

6.      Now, you will switch to only two needles - slip 18 stitches onto each needle

7.      Work a 3 needle bind off. (Link will take you instructions on how to do this -

its the last one, so scroll all the way down)

8.      You now have 18 live stitches on one needle.

9.      Switch to the larger needles now (This just helps make the pocket a bit roomier).

10.  Keep knitting in st st for approx 3 inches (or however big you would like your pocket).

11.  When you like the length of the pocket work 3 rows of garter stitch (knit a row, purl a row,

       knit another row).

12.  Bind off and leave a tail long enough for sewing one side.

13.  Now just sew the sides of the pocket using a simple whip stitch with your yarn and darning needle.

Yes, a photo of my iPhone in the sock would be nice wouldn't it? Thing is, it's also my camera.

I can tell you that I have an iPhone 4 and this sock fits quite snug.

The pocket holds a bit of lens cleaning cloth because I'm constantly wiping the screen clean.
