Real

"Every once in a while a knitter tells me that they are not a 'real knitter.' I ignore them, for they are lying. There are no standards or entrance exams in knitting. It's not like the big board of knitting executives mails you your papers the day you finish an Aran sweater, finally pronouncing you a real knitter. If you are knitting, you are a real knitter. Period."
~The Yarn Harlot, Stephanie Pearl-McPhee

I like re-reading it and changing the word "knitter" to "writer."  Watch:

Every once in a while a writer tells me that they are not a 'real writer.' I ignore them, for they are lying. There are no standards or entrance exams in writing. It's not like the big board of writing executives mails you your papers the day you finish your Great American Novel, finally pronouncing you a real writer. If you are writing, you are a real writer. Period.

Go ahead.. change it up!  Add in your hobby, your passion, your deepest and truest wish and see how it affects you.  Accepting oneself as a real xxxxx means that there are no more excuses, no more reasons to procrastinate, no class that is going to suddenly make you what you already are.  Being "real" at something doesn't make you the best.  But it sure as hell makes you want to strive for it.  Yeah?
