Fall

One at a time they take their leap

Of faith or of fearless abandon

Only to join those who leapt yesterday

A reunion on the ground where clinging and hoping

Are done for now

A final rest, a peaceful and warm reunion

For all those who chose to let the wind lead the way

If only once, it matters only that they did

Come the bitter cold winter days

Those that cling are long dead and gray

Crumpled under the weight of their stubborn stems

They face the harsh winds and let go of naught

Wondering perhaps what became of those golden comrades

Who chose to follow the wind, if only once...

They so peacefully laid down, having savored the fall itself.
